Peter was born on 22nd January 1915. He joined 601 Squadron in 1934. In 1938, he left for New York where he worked in theatres.
In August 1939 he was contacted for mobilisation and booked a passage back to the UK on the ship Acquitania where he met another two ex pats travelling back, who had also been called up for duty. They were Billy Fiske and Billy Clyde.
On 8th September, he went onto active list joining 601 Squadron to fly hurricanes.
On 7th June 1940, he took off from Tangmere, in a sorte of six hurricanes on a mission to patrol between Le Tréport and Aumale. They engaged in dog fights with ME109 and after breaking off, redeployed to Beaumont-le-Roger. On their return back to England, they engaged with a formation of German bombers and their ME109 escorts. Peter was shot down at 18.35 hrs at Pulcheux. He managed to bail out but injured his leg in the process.
He was treated in a French hospital, then clothed and escaped to La Havre before making it back home.
Because of his injuries he kept an office based role throughout the remainder of the war.
After leaving the RAF once the war had finished, he engaged in film making in the UK and USA .
