Flt Lieutenant John Gifford Laurence "Jack" Laffoley, a Canadian pilot, was due to return home to Canada but was called for duty to participate in Operation Gisela on 4th March 1945, his 33rd trip. He was sadly killed over UK soil (Boroughbridge, North Yorkshire) a few miles from base when German fighter pilots intercepted him on his return from a German bombing raid. Age 22 years.
