Spitfire Visitor Centre
The Spitfire Visitor Centre has been developed to recreate the sights, sounds and sense of wartime Blackpool and to ensure they are brought back to life. This experience gives visitors a valuable insight of the realities of fighting on the ground, as well as in the air, during the dark years of WW2. The original Belman Hangar was the first to be erected on the new RAF Squires Gate Airfield in May 1939, before the outbreak of war in September.
Highlights include:
Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the operations and aircrew briefing rooms.
View original wartime aircraft crash relics and hear the stories of their wartime fate and subsequent recovery.
Take the opportunity to view behind the scenes engineering projects, such as the Saving Amy Airspeed Oxford restoration on engineering Thursdays.
Experience the sights and sounds of an operational WW2 RAF fighter squadron hangar.
View four life size marks of Spitfires and a Hawker Hurricane replicas and view the UK’s only bf109e up close.
Opportunity to sit in a Spitfire cockpit and also learn about the rare fleet of RAF airfield vehicles and equipment on display (£5.00 fee).
Open days are ticket only and include Informative guided tours as well as the opportunity to look around on your own.
The UK’s only full scale fully operational Spitfire flight simulator for hire, outside of open days.
