Museum IM Schlob Lutzen

The castle is a gem located in the center of the city and houses a museum.

In the middle of a small park in the town, the castle rises into the sky with its 43-meter-high tower. The first documents document the construction of a castle by the Merseburg bishops in 1252. In the 14th century, this was expanded into a castle complex with a moat. It was not until 1538 that Bishop Sigismund von Lindenau had it converted into a Renaissance castle. Johann August Patzschke, who owned the castle in the 19th century, had the round towers, bay windows and the upper floor demolished. The moat also no longer exists. Probably the castle's most famous guest was Generalissimo Albrecht von Wallenstein. He stayed here from November 5 to 6, 1632, before the Battle of Lützen.

Today, the castle café is located in "Wallenstein's parlor". In 1928, a museum was opened in the castle, which now occupies the entire castle. The exhibition focuses on the 30 Years' War, the Napoleonic Wars of Liberation, especially in 1813, and the history of the town. Two large dioramas depict the Battle of Lützen on November 6/16, 1632 (3600 pewter figures) and the Battle of Großgörschen on May 2, 1813 (5500 pewter figures). Regularly changing special exhibitions on various topics and exhibits from "grandma's time" in the attic welcome you.
