1889 - Adolf Hitler was born in Austrian border town of Upper Braunau and baptised as catholic.

1916 - Royal Navy HMS Glorious battlecruiser was launched by Harland & Wolf, Belfast.  It was rebuilt into an aircraft carrier for WW11 and was sunk by the German navy in 1940.

1970 - President Nixon announces further withdrawal of 150,000 troops from Vietnam.
