• 1918 Battle of Epehy British  Fourth Army advances towards German held  Hindenburgh line and the village of Epehy was captured on this day
• 1947 the formation of the US airforce took place part of the national security act where before it had been part of the Army now it became independent
• 2001 President Bush authorised military action to be taken in Afghanistan following events of 9/11
