• 1914 Battle of Dinant in the Belgian province of Namur,Germans were under impression that the town was full of hostile civilian combatants however this was incorrect and the Germans fired at each other confused and took this out on the locals with murdering civilians and days later a much bigger massacre took place
• 1944 Battle of Marseille Southern France US 7th army captures Aix-en- Provence the French launched an urban battle in the town which led to the liberation of Marseille
